The RYR-1 Foundation is excited to announce that it raised over $150,500 from its “End-of-the-Year” campaign. In November 2020, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of The RYR-1 Foundation pledged a $50,000 Matching Campaign–for every dollar raised, members of the BoT would match that donation, up to $50,000. Thanks to its many generous donors, The RYR-1 Foundation far exceeded this $50,000 goal!
In total, The RYR-1 Foundation has raised over $3.4 million since it launched in 2014. In 2020 alone, it raised over $400,000. These funds will significantly impact its mission: 1) To support research leading to an effective treatment or a cure for RYR-1-related diseases, and 2) To improve the lives of the families and individuals affected by RYR-1-related diseases.
“None of our achievements would be possible without all of our generous donors,” said Michael F. Goldberg, MD, MPH, President of The RYR-1 Foundation. “In particular, I want to recognize the leadership and generosity of our Board of Trustees–the 2020 Matching Campaign is just one of the many examples of the critical role they play in the success of our organization.” Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, The RYR-1 Foundation has been able to reach many milestones over the last 12 months. Its ability to achieve numerous successes is due to generous donors who have continued to provide critically needed support.
About The RYR-1 Foundation
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based 501(c)(3) public charity was launched in October 2014 by members of the Goldberg family, who have been affected by an RYR-1-related disease. It is currently the only organization that exists solely to advocate for and serve the needs of patients with RYR-1 myopathy, the most common cause of congenital myopathy. The mission of The RYR-1 Foundation is to support research leading to effective treatment or a cure for RYR-1-related diseases, to educate physicians about these diseases, and to provide patient/family support and advocacy.
